My first seeds died, so I had to restart my cucumber seeds. Here are the Muncher Cucumber Seedlings at 2 Weeks. The initial Tru-Leaves are still larger than the secondary leaves, but it is coming along nicely.
Root System Fairly Developed at 2 Weeks
Only after two weeks, these Muncher Variety Cucumbers have a well established root system, which is strong enough to transplant in a raised garden bed.
Planting in the Raised Garden Bed
Here they are in the ground with their strings in place to climb up. Hopefully by Mid-June in eight weeks we will start harvesting our first cucumbers. This is late this year for me, but we will be enjoying cucumber with seared ahi, and onions and cilantro in a couple of months!
Will They Survive?
WIth the only the two seed leaves and the beginning of true leaves you might ask "Will They Survive?". My answer is: "Usually"
The "seed leaves" or more specifically, Cotyledons are part of the seed embryo and provide the initial nutrients for the plant until the true leaves develop and take over the role of photosynthesis.
True Leaves: The plant produces its first set of true leaves, which are different from the cotyledons and resemble the mature leaves of the plant. The second set of leaves that appear after the cotyledons are called true leaves. These true leaves resemble the mature leaves of the plant and are responsible for photosynthesis, which provides energy for the plant's continued growth.
